All About Fibre - Reach Your Body Goals Through Your Diet

Why Fibre is Important in Our Diets

When we’re changing our diets, our natural instinct is to take things out - eat less junk food, cut out soda. But what about the things we should be adding ? When it comes to healthy eating, it’s often not what you’re removing, but what you’re including. Adding more fibre to your diet can be a major player in gut health and weight management.

Studies show that North Americans aren’t eating nearly enough fibre on a daily basis, and compared to our hunter-gatherer ancestors, the good bacteria in our gut is much less diverse. This means that when we are digesting foods, our bodies might not be able to tackle some of the nutrients to absorb them and use them within our systems, for digestion and other processes. When we don’t eat enough fibre, these good bacteria can even go extinct to the point of no return. It’s so important to actively consume many sources of fibre, to prevent your body from struggling with bloating, constipation, and even various diseases.

What & How Much Fibre Do You Need?

It’s recommended to consume 25-30g of fibre daily whether you’re trying to lose fat or gain muscle. Fibre helps your body feel full because it takes a while to break down, so increasing fibre when trying to lose weight is a common and useful strategy to feel full and get more nutrition eating less.

Here are some fibre rich foods:

  • Beans
  • Berries
  • Apples
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Nuts
  • Potatoes
